The Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre Strategic Plan 2010–2012 has been developed to align the professional learning opportunities provided in the strategy to the NSW Institute of Teachers’ professional teaching standards. The focus for support described in this strategic plan is designed to meet teachers’ professional needs to achieve and maintain professional standards. Professional learning at Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre will support teachers as members of the teaching profession, supporting student learning through high quality teaching practices. It involves building professional relationships and networks with teachers and students to failitatae building connections and partnerships with their communities.
The strategy contains provision for a range of options for teacher participation that are focused on the local school context linked to student learning needs, including:
- projects to engage teachers in workplace learning, based on a ‘cycles of continuous improvement’model
- clusters of schools working in collegial networks
- workplace mentoring and coaching, aligned to meeting the NSW Institute of Teachers’ professional teaching standards
- flexible learning that includes components such as self-paced and facilitated online learning, face-to-face workshops, video and teleconferences, online mentors and discussion groups
- local, regional and state workshops and conferences that enable participants to have their work publicly celebrated and critiqued
- onsite and offsite participation in knowledge-building and skill-sharing activities
- participation in formal coursespartnerships with professional associations and higher education institutions to provide expertise in the development, design and/or implementation of professional development activities.
